I'm using MyPhotoIndex from the first versions and I like it very much. Since 1.18 and beyond I have strange (performance?) problems and with every new (beta) version I try to upgrade but every time I have to go back to 1.17 (which I have saved on my hard drive). What's the problem:
I have a lot of images (10286) all stored on several DVD's (each DVD about 4000 images). If I add new images to the DVD (stored in different maps), I use the option Tools/Import/From Disk and select the root of the DVD and use sub folders. MyPhotoIndex is searching the whole DVD and will add only the new images, perfect but... this only works fine (I mean relative quick) in version 1.17 and lower. If I user 1.18 of 1.19 it takes ages to search the DVD. That's the first reason to use 1.17.
(A 'problem' which always occurs it the fact that after importing the images not all thumbnails are stored automatically into the database, I have to schroll download the new images and let MyPhotoIndex update the thumbnails (this problem exits from 1.00, but I can live with that))
The second problem is losing thumbnails in 1.19. It happens if I scroll down through the images and MyPhotoIndex starts searching on the DVD (for getting the better quality images I think). It keeps searching and searching. If I close MyPhotoIndex I see that MyPhotoIndex.exe remains as process in the task manager. If I stop that process (after a couple of minutes) it results in losing many thumbnails in the database.
It looks like 1.19 is handling the thumbnails (or database updating) different from 1.17...
I really like to use 1.19 (very nice UI and new options like index position) but with above problems I can't do the update...
Unfortunately I can't give you the database (around 90Mb/icf and 7Mb/mdb) and I know this will find the problem harder, but there a for private reasons for that :-)
Hi,
I guess the problem is that My photo index does not support offline media yet, like DVDs, I understand your privacy issue with sending your data so I'll try to replicate the scenario on my machine, (I have about the same amount of images), I will burn them to DVDs and try your case, once I have a resolution for that I will release a beta so you can test to see if that helps,
I really appreciate your efforts and support on this and hope I can resolve these issues quickly.
Thanks & Regards,
Asaf.

Oops I didn't knew that...
Thanks for you (always) quick answer and I will wait for the beta version!
I've uploaded a beta version 1.20.3015
I've tested it using some DVD based scenarios and made some modifications,
Your feedback is important to me
Regards,
yes, Yes, YEs, YES now it works and can make the step to 1.20
After converting the database I have manualy updated the missing thumbnails.
After this job the DVD was spinning and spinning but I just quit the program and stopped the DVD without any problems.
After starting-up PI all thumbnails were there, pefect!
It looks like you have made PI much quicker (compared to 1.18)
What it the idea behind the categories, I thought we have tags for doing that?
Thanks again and looking forward for the final 1.20 version and new features!
I'am happy!
I am very happy to hear that .
I will add an help section for categories,
The idea behind the categories is to have different steps for image processing (like steps) i.e. the image was printed, shared, or edited,
The categories are much more visible then the tags and each image can have up to 4 categories marked with different colors.
I'm planning to ad the ability for certain operations to set the categories automatically (user defined).
