Hi,

It's sound like a good idea to keep the picturs directory under the application tree.

The original desktop version has the ability to create/change the index so you can have multiple indexes, I can do the same for the portable version but will have to check that the the user is saving the new index only under the portablr drive, and the same for opening.

Opposed to the Desktop version, the portable version keeps image path in a relative way (relative to the storage path) so moving the index from desktop to portable is not that easy, I will need to add export import (which I'm still working on) that will enable you to export/ import images + data + tags.

I think the shared tag is a bit problematic but maybe with a good import/export/merge it can be achived, I'll give it some more thought.

Asaf.

Thanks for your efforts.

Actually, if a user wants to share libraies between a desktop drive and a portable drive, he/she just needs to use the portable version on both drives. I do that with Thunderbird Portable all the time. If the Portable menuing system isn't running, Thunderbird Portable lets you select any folder one has rights to access. I just had to create a shortcut to the Thunderbired exe manually on my main drive. I'd probably use the portable version on my main drive.

If all library data is in it's own directory there should be no problem copying that complete library tree. (it would be nice to be able to select the sub-folder name or even change it so the contents can be recognized.

I expected the tags and moving/coping photos between libraries to be a major issue.

Thanks again for your efforts!!!

I just gave 3552 Portable a try and had a crash importing using the wizard when it started processing sub folders.

Is there a way to display file names in the thumb display? I have difficulty finding different edited versions of the same file.

For my usage (and not familiar with the program's history) I find fthe folder structure not suited to moving "albums" This may not be the intent of MyPhotoIndex but may be of interest for others. I am uncomfortable storing photos all in one place and also uncomfortable having an "album's" data scattered in multiple places.

Rather than "Change index" would it be wise to "change album" and have each album/collection in a self contained folder. That is, an album'/collection's photos, database and cache all be in named folders using the album/collection's name as the folder name. Not other data stored there. That would make moving/copying an album/collection very easy.

Finally, there is always a possibility one would like to read the files on a non-windows system or a system without .NET. MyPhotoIndex creates multiple image folders with names that are not particularly relevant for such usage. Actually, I do not understand why there are multiple image folders if one adopts an album/collection perspective.

These comments are ONLY based on my thoughts of how I'd like to use MyPhotoIndex. They may conflict with other user's desires
