Display / not to display all images after application startup
Hi,

Could you add one more checkbox to configuration? :)
I think it would be good to have a possibility to configure if user wants all files to be displayed right after application startup or not.
I have ~28400 files in one index file and the delay while opening application is noticeable. And I never really needed them all to be displayed after application startup: I open application if I want to view something / search for something, and I know the tags I'm interested in.

Re: Display / not to display all images after application startup

Hi,

I'll try to do something about this, maybe some background loading to enhance the the experience.

If the image data will not be loaded then you will not be able to query on it (the query system is not db based (too slow for the tag queries)

How much time in average does it take for the 28400 images to load ?

Asaf.

OK, I understand.
That's not so slow (well, I personally think at the moment it could be P3 priority change), but in case you could do something about it in the future -- it would be nice.
28400 images (max thumbnail quality, 640x480; the quality of original images is rather low, one file takes ~300 KB), Celeron 2.66; 2 G RAM; Win XP SP3 -- it takes ~13 seconds from "cold start" (application icon click), ~10 seconds from application window show-up.
28400 images in my case is ~2 DVDs. So if collection is much larger -- it will take some time to load. Actually, I thought more about one of the person I know -- he has collection of ~50-100 DVDs (nobody knows the exact number now :))

50 - 100 DVD's sounds like a lot of images, I hope you backup the images on other media as well (burned discs are not that reliable) I had cases when I could not read some discs I burned a year earlier which were stored in good conditions.

I will try to think of something to increase the performance of this.
