I have 2 computers on a network and I'd like to have both see the same tags and also the custom categories. Once the first computer has tagged and set up photos and categories how can I share all the settings? Can I copy the MDB file over to the second PC or direct the program to a see the MDB on a networked (and mapped drive)? How can I export categories?

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

The only way currently to share the same index is to use a network path or a mapped drive, Every computer on the network must use the same path to the files either \\ShredComputer\MySharedDrive\Images. or M:\Images.

You can easily share the MDB file, but you must have both machines use the same exact path to the image files.

I personally use the same index from 3 different machines which one of them acts as the server.

Hopes this helps,

      Asaf.

Hi Asaf,

Thanks for your reply! Is the "Myphotoindex.mdb" the only file that needs to be copied to the networked location? As a test, I started an index with about 13 photos and tagged them and was able to close the program and go back into it with the photos and tags showing. I then closed the program again and copied the MDB to a mapped network drive (P:) and reopened the program. But for some reason all my photos in the index are gone from both the original MDB (on C:, it does give an exception error though. Corrupt file?) and in the copied version on P. It's no big deal because it was just a test but I wanted to make sure that you did not have any other ideas for the best way to create a shared database on a network. Is it perhaps best to start with a clean database on the networked share?

Thanks again!

Hi,

The correct index file to copy is in: C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\MyPhotoIndex\Data\MyPhotoIndex.mdb

This is the default index file created by the application on first start up.

Indeed it will be best to start with a clean db from the network (will prevent incorrect image file paths).

Please remember that the images should be located on P drive (or any other network drive) even when working locally ,the MDB file keeps the full path to the files(like P:\Images\img001.jpg).

Asaf.
