add data to program when installed

I would like to share this program with many pictures already loaded.  It is confusing for the people I am sharing with to get the data file and picture files in the correct path.

Is there a way I can save these all together so they install correctly when they install the program?

Re: add data to program when installed

Hi,

You can open a photo index from any path you wish,  So what I usually do is to keep the Photo index file in the root directory of the  image collection (i.e. My Photos).

To open a photo index just go to the File->Open.

The only issue I see is that the cache will be rebuild on their machine, but it's not that hysteric.

Re: add data to program when installed

Hi Asaf,

What I was wanting to do is supply others with the program full of pictures already tagged with comments etc.  It will be hard for some of them to get the index file to the proper location.

C:\Documents and Settings\_user_\Local Settings\Application Data\MyPhotoIndex\Data\MyPhotoIndex.mdb

The ffolders with the images need to be saved at   C:\Statler Stitcher Patterns

I would have liked to have these installed in the proper path when they install the program.  Maybe I can have them install the program then come up with something else to copy the other files in the correct path.

Do i have it right that if the MyPhotoIndex.mdb is cop[ied to the proper path first then when they open the program then they see the tags etc already defined.

Thanks!
Christy

Re: add data to program when installed

Hi Christy,

You got it right,  if the MyPhotoIndex.mdb will be copied to the correct path the user will see the images when he first opens the application, You can build a combined installer in order to do that, with something  like the Nullsoft Scriptable Install System

using a simple script you can build an installer that will both install MyPhotoIndex & copy your Images/Index file.

If you want I can try writing a small sample script.

Re: add data to program when installed

Null Soft installer is free and a very good script based installer,

it has a lot of free sample scripts and the script language is preety easy to grasp,

I will post a sample script in a couple of days.

Re: add data to program when installed

Hi again,

I have posted a new help page with a sample script and files.

you can read it here:http://www.myphotoindex.com/Help/tabid/69/TID/20/cid/8/Default.aspx

after getting familiar with the basic concept it should be easy to use,

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Re: add data to program when installed

Very cool - got it work but had a few problems

1) The folder where the images are contains nested folders of files - didn't seem to like that - I had to put everything 'loose' in the image source folder and edit all the addresses in the data file.

2) The image folder also contains other types of files (design files) that were not copied along with the JPEGs. I need those files to stay in that folder with the pictures.

I will have to research to see if I can figure out how to get around these problems.  Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks!

Re: add data to program when installed

Hi,

Glad to see this helps,

Take a look in the MPI_PreinstalledImages.nsi file at line :55 (File SourceImages\*.jpg)

this tells the installer to get only jpg files , You can add another line with more file extensions.

as for the nested folders, I think adding the /r flag should take care of that ((File /r SourceImages\*.jpg)

Asaf.
