I have lots of photos all jumbled on different cds/dvds.  I want to index them, referring to their location by disc name or number that I will label each disc with.  How do I name each disc in the Database?  When each is opened, they are just H:\  - the drive letter.

Also, in the Help file, under Image Context Menu, it says that when you change the metadata info, it changes it in the DB as well as in the Image.  How does it do this on a non-rewritable CD?

Thanks for any help you can provide.  I've just downloaded the program, and am testing it out on one batch of photos on a CD before commencing the major work!

Hi,

The Disc label is not saved by the system (I will add it to the feature list though),

You can simply add it manually to the image comments: select all the images from a certain batch(CD) then right click on one of the selected images --> Change image data -->Comment.

Then when you wish to see the comment just press on the  myphotoindex comment icon icon under the image

Regarding your other question: you are right, the image will not be updated when using a read only media  like a CD.

Regards,

 Asaf

Actually my discs don't have any Labels - if you mean Volume names.  I want to create names (actually I'll just write numbers on all the photo discs with a marker), then I want to be able to load a disc for the first time into MPI, give it the same number as on the disc in the DB, then whenever I search for a photo in the DB, it will report what disc number it is on.

So, if I use Comments to assign disc numbers, I can then search for a photo(s) by entering the desired tags, and just look in the Comment field to see which disc that photo is on.

Sort of roundabout, but that should work for me.  Usually, 'catalogues' have a 'Location' field, and I thought I just couldn't find it!  Thanks so much for your prompt response.

The premise of your software is exactly what I was looking for.  Simple, clean, easy - I just want an ongoing way to catalog my photos, and locate them easily on their storage discs, when needed.

Thanks again,

Betrock

I am unable to start a new thread, so will post here.

Per your suggeston about handling Locaton thru Comments:  I am unable to add a Comment to any photo, either singly or as a group.  Please advise.

I am also unable to rotate pictures.  When I click on 'rotate 90 degrees, nothing happens.  Please advise.

Also, I would like to 2nd and earlier request to show file names as a sort option, as opposd to only date.

Hi,

The rotation issue is probably due to the fact that you are using offline media(CD/DVD) My Photo Index Tries to rotate the original image not only the thumbnail, As for the comments this still should work, I will check that out,

I'm currently working on the new Beta version so I will address these issues and also the name of the files and other details except for dates,

 Asaf.
