If I move image files from one directory to another but the FILE NAME has ALREADY been "tagged"

does the MyPhotoIndex still remember the "tags" associated with the filenames.

Or does the program remember "Tags" from a "path filename" ?

I have 30,000 images I have seperated them into Directories (about 250 directories), what I would like to

do is "tag" them by directory name, then Move them into ONE BIG directory and then sub-tag them.

Hi,

The index keeps the full path of the image, and currently there is no automatic way to reconnect moved files.

If you manually move the images after tagging them you will not lose your work, this can currently be fixed manually by editing the mdb file.

Asaf.

First, thanks for a great program. It's the best I've seen.

I have this same issue about moving files. I've been using MPI for well over a year and now realize that keeping my photos on my laptop, even with a external hard drive back up may not be the best idea. I want to move all images to my external (2 actually for backup) and still use MPI. I understand how to back up the mdb file (I think) but I'm not sure how to manually edit the path to change it from my C drive to my D drive. This can be done right? Please help a guy who knows just enough about computers to be dangerous...to himself!

Again, thanks for all your work!

Hi,

Thanks :)

The .mdb file holds the full paths to the image files. you can use Microsoft access to search and replace the root of you're image file paths. Inside the mdb file there is a table called 'Images' and the column you are looking for is called 'FullPath'.

Just remember to backup you mdb file before editing it.

The location of the mdb file is not very important (you can use the file-> open menu to tell My Photo Index what mdb file you are using.

If you don't have MS Access or have any issue with the Find/Replace just send me your mdb file and your new image store path.

I'm afraid I don't have MS Access, nor do I know how to send you the mdb file. I'm moving all my images to my G drive from my C drive. Tell me how to attach my mdb file and I'll gladly send it your way.

I assume I could have 2 indexes, one to my G and one to my C drive right? When I open MPI I just select from File which one I want right?

Thanks again for help
